OPEN’s Air Quality Monitoring Education Tech Initiative

OPEN’s Air Quality Monitoring Education Tech Initiative

A new student-led sustainable community development education program.

Supported by an international team of experts and technologists, OPEN is launching a new student-led sustainable community development education program – OPEN’s Air Quality Monitoring Education Tech Initiative.

Schools who sign up will receive OPEN RAK environmental sensor development kits and gain access to our related course modules where students will learn how to assemble, program, and deploy air quality sensors to monitor air quality surrounding their school campus.

Next, OPEN and its services team will begin to onboard to our backend data network systems, and successively connect additional schools into a citywide network. OPEN will set up data dashboards and give access to data repositories for students to continually monitor and analyze the air quality data of their school neighborhood, and those of other schools as they come online.

Our AI assessment and analytics system will teach students how to use AI to promote and advance sustainable community development applications be it air quality, smart farming, or ecosystem restoration. This air quality data network and AI system can also be made available to each city’s education and environmental agencies. OPEN’s student-led sustainable community development action education!

Local city environmental agencies who need to track this will benefit by partnering with local Ministry of Education and Environment – preparing students for a science and technology driven future, and in turn environmental experts will obtain the air quality data they need to resolve this global challenge. Students apply their newfound knowledge to support their local communities, while learning data analytics and AI for environmental assessments.

The program is ambitious, exciting, and will be most helpful to the missions of the Ministry of Education in those cities and the environmental agencies who can really put this data to good use in helping trace major and shifting pollution sources, tracking over time the pollution hotspots and working to mitigate these dangerous particulate emissions to improve the health and well-being of their citizens.

OPEN’s Previous Program in Abuja Nigeria

Sept. 2021 – March 2022

With funding from the US Embassy and in partnership with Dr. Badewa, Founder and Director of the Royal Academy of Educational Therapy Foundation and four other special needs schools from Abuja, Nigeria, we delivered a teacher training and student program that was a resounding success.

Now we wish to take this program to the next level and to completion with our new Air Quality Education Initiative teaching and fully supporting these and other teachers and students from these schools the programming, outdoor deployment and networking of these OPEN-RAKwireless sensor kits, using the first Air Quality Course we are proposing.
